Come join Southern Excursions on our tour of Magnolia Plantation. Founded in 1676 by the Drayton family, Magnolia Plantation has survived the centuries and witnessed the history of our nation unfold before it from the American Revolution through the Civil War and beyond. It is the oldest public tourist site in the Low-country, and the oldest public gardens in America, opening its doors to visitors in 1870 to view the thousands of beautiful flowers and plants in its famous gardens. So join us here at Magnolia Plantation to experience the beauty of its gardens and its rich history.

THE OLD AFRICAN AMERICAN CABIN
The cabin is next to the orientation theater where Miss Tina Gaillard lived and acted as the official "greeter" for Magnolia up until the 1940's. She was a young child when the War ended. C.N. Hastie named a beautiful camellia for her, which is registered in the American Camellia Society and the International Camellia Society, and can be seen on a path near the Plantation House.

Robeson County Fair

Time to join Southern Excursions for a good old time at the Robeson County Fair.
Our excursion will take us out to Lumberton, NC where we will join in the fun at the annual Fair. Local entertainment, amusement rides, Pig races, POW Wow, and the Flying Club Demonstration, are just a few events that will highlight this day. Good country food available for purchase.
Put on your sneakers, and let’s go to a good home town country fair.

Come join Southern Excursions for a day trip to Moncks Corner to visit the Mepkin Abbey for the Art & Spirit of the Creche
You are invited to the 2016 exhibit of Nativity Sets from around the world featuring local collectors and artists, and new donations to the Abbey
What is a Creche? A creche is a representation of the infant Jesus in the manger, typically surrounded by the figures found in a nativity set. Mary, Joseph, the Wise Men, animals and shepherds are often included in the scenes. Visitors from around the country flock to Mepkin Abbey for an incredible display of unique, handmade nativity sets from around the world. Mepkin’s Abbey’s Creche Festival is a Lowcountry holiday tradition! The monks transform their conference center into a forest of trees and candles which serve as the backdrop for the Nativity sets.
Our trip will start out with a bus ride to the Abbey, a variety of goods that the Moncks sell are offered in their gift shop. During the Christmas season, they make over 1500 fruit cakes and are sold during during the Creche only, along with poppie seed dressing, and drizzle a syrup for pancakes or pound cake, along with home grown mushrooms are some of the products offered for sale.
We will tour their Library where a display of Nativity Sets from all over the world will be displayed, approx 90-100 are usually on displayed.
After the tour you will have some time to tour the grounds/gardens, the winter flowers should be out.
Lunch is planned after our visit at Gilligan’s.
Catfish Nuggets, Cobb Salad, Fried Combo Shrimp & Flounder, Grilled Chicken breast, Grilled Shrimp; served with fries, red rice or fried okra, & a soft drink or sweet/unsweet tea. Cash Bar available.
